Natural Cold and Flu Remedies

With the rise in the cold and flu season, there has been some lack in the 'standard' medicines used to treat and prevent these illnesses.
Here are a few natural options, recommended by Doctor Andrea Hillstad, ND that work just as well, if not better!

 

  • Medieval Remedya blend of essential oils with antimicrobial properties, Medieval Remedy helps boost the immune system, decrease sinus congestion, and promote respiratory health.   • Mullein - expectorant and lung tonic. Anti-inflammatory and soothing to a sore throat. Good for both dry and mucus producing coughs. Can be made into a tea or used for steam inhalation

  • Thyme - best taken at the first signs of illness. Contains antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, carminative, diaphoretic, and expectorant properties. Can be added to soups, salads, or other foods, or made into tea

  • Calendula - antiviral properties support immune and lymphatic systems. Can be made into tea. 

  • Yarrow - whole body tonic, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Can be made into tea

  • Licorice root - powerful antimicrobial, makes a tasty tea.

  • Marshmallow - expectorant and cough remedy. Creates a protective barrier in the respiratory tract. Can be made into tea

  • Echinacea - immunostimulant, blood purifier, and anti-inflammatory. Best taken short-term to prevent over-stimulating the immune system. Can be made into tea. 

  • Bloodstone - strengthens immune system and keeps it alert and responsive

  • Carnelian - carrier of orange ray, a deficiency in the orange ray may manifest as weakness of the immune system.

  • Aventurine - purifies and strengthens weak organs
